Market Perspective

As legacy networks carrying traditional data applications collide with new wireless, IP, VOIP, satellite networks carrying real-time data, voice, streaming video and video conferencing applications...the question of managing a network surpasses traditional bandwidth and latency issues, and is eclipsed by a greater question of establishing “dynamic control” over a rapidly changing environment, for commercial enterprises, government agencies, DOD and homeland security organizations.

Company Overview
AiMetrix, Inc. founded in 1996, develops innovative solutions for managing vast, complex, high traffic, converged networks carrying net-centric applications using voice, data and streaming video and video conferencing. NeuralStar®, its network management platform provides Integrated Event Management (IER), creating a “One Network, One View, Total Control” approach to service assurance, real-time performance, fault management, service activation and security event management.

NeuralStar is the one truly scalable network management solution from NOC to desktop that eclipses traditional “monitor-and-alert” products to deliver Integrated Event Resolution. IER addresses the specific demands of complex, converged networks and net-centric applications providing composite visibility into all network devices and event domains through a single screen and enables network professionals to actually take controlof network conditions with automated event responses that send management commands directly to affected devices...slashing response time and assuring network services levels.

Integrated Event Resolution™

Neuralstar’s Integrated Event Resolution (IER) address the demands of converged networks and net-centric applications by providing greater visibility into network operations, better intelligence on network events and embedded control systems. Integrated Event Resolution extends beyond monitor-and alert and enables network professionals to: collect management data from any network device, application or service, including customized data collect data about any type of event-Availability, Performance, Security, QoS Policy and SLA Violations-and display it simultaneously in a unified display. In addition to sending alerts to operators, NeuralStar can immediately re-establish control over network conditions by automatically delivering commands to devices.

NeuralEvents™
At the heart of Integrated Event Resolution is NeuralStar’s ability to formulate a NeuralEvent. A NeuralEvent is a unique package of management information containing Monitored Data, Business Context and Workflow, customizable to craft highly targetable, automated responses to the most subtle of network events.

Network Visibility
NeuralStar’s Composite Viewer provides the depth of visibility that makes Integrated Event Resolution a powerful approach to network management. Composite Viewer’s integrated viewing zones, and high-contrast interface, enables integration of all management information, with open unlimited windows simultaneously reflecting multiple missions, business and situation diagrams and alerts…all on one monitor. Network managers can monitor real-time availability and performance data simultaneously, reflecting both the raw event data plus the enhanced business context from the NeuralStar database.

NeuralStar’s Network Navigator offers a similar format for finding network resources, maps, filters, views, tools and more. All network-connected devices are included, regardless of technology or protocol. NeuralStar’s Heads-Up Display provides an executive dashboard where users can collect the most important summary data in graphical form for “at a glance” updates using real-time alert charts and performance gauges.

Department of Defense

NeuralStar and Net-Centric Warfare
Between Operation Desert Storm in 1991 and Iraqi Freedom in 2001, the interconnected networks that support the Department of Defense have seen an even greater increase in size, traffic and complexity. This movement has been driven primarily by the rise of Net-Centric Applications and converged networks that weave together heterogeneous technologies. NeuralStar’s Integrated Event Resolution, by eclipsing traditional “monitor-and alert” capabilities, enables DOD network professionals support key objectives related to Net-Centric Warfare.

Power to the Network’s Edge
Traditional network management products reside either at the highest level (such as the“manager of managers”), or at the network element level. NeuralStar’s scalable approach mirrors the force command, providing full functionality, views and relevant data to every network specialist, whether working from a laptop, an AWAC or the GNC.

Unified Management Platform
NeuralStar delivers an abstraction engine for use across disparate networks, devices, protocols, software applications and technologies. Network engineers can find, manage and control any and all network-connected entities from a single window for a true view of the entire network. Performance and availability are managed together, rather than through multiple products or interfaces.

Situational Views
Users at any level can share common operational pictures across a unit, garrison, battlefield or theater. This helps eliminate “swivel chair” management across multiple monitors by allowing administrators to drill down to any network view in a single window. In the field, it helps unit administrators identify issues or bottlenecks upstream, downstream or surging through peer networks.

Responsiveness
With NeuralStar’s IER, network engineers—even those without programming experience can create rules-based routines that will initiate automated processes if certain network or traffic conditions occur. When necessary, specialists can actively intervene to respond to unanticipated situations or mission changes.

Unit Autonomy
When a mobile NOC goes off the grid, NeuralStar uses pre-determined policies to automatically redirect unit communications to a new management point. NeuralStar continues to manage the local network from the mobile NOC, storing relevant data and pushing it up the line once connectivity is re-established to the larger force.

DoD Customers
Missile Defense Agency
- The Department of Defense’s Missile Defense Agency (MDA) is responsible for detecting missile launches all around the world and alerting U.S. and allied leaders to the possible threat levels. The Command and Control Battle Management and Communications system (C2BMC) uses NeuralStar to manage a global network that connects highly sophisticated devices ranging from sensor arrays to satellites, plus thousands of common routers, switches, fire walls, phones and wireless laptop connections.

JNMS - NeuralStar is the primary network management software component for the Joint Network Management System (JNMS) employed by the DOD to support Net-Centric Operations for Joint Task Forces (JTF) deployed around the world and in the war on terrorism.

Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) - DISA employs NeuralStar as its primary software component for the Integrated Network Management System (INMS). INMS manages DISA’s Defense Information Systems Network (DISN), comprised of 14 secured and un-secured networks and related services as well as the deployment of network circuits comprising the Global Information Grid (GIG). NeuralStar has been the network management system of choice for DISA since 1999.

Joint Network Training Capability (JNTC)
– JNTC has selected NeuralStar to support the management and implementation of net-centric communications for live, virtual and constructive training environments, including war game exercise simulations. JNTC will be using NeuralStar, through its adoption of the Joint Network Management System (JNMS). NeuralStar is the primary network management software component for JNMS.

Joint Special Operations Command – JSOC uses NeuralStar to manage converged networks with a focus on networked video teleconferencing.

Commercial Customers
Microsoft Corporation uses NeuralStar for transport network monitoring and Service Level Agreement (SLA) assurance for SONET and ATM Networks.to manage optical networks

Broadwing Corporation - NeuralStar has been the network management solution of choice for Broadwing since early 2001. Since then NeuralStar has been central in consolidating the company’s management over its optical, IP, VoIP and TDM long distance services.

Cincinnati Bell – NeuralStar provides broadband service activation.
